For Mark Taylor and the #81 Taylors Trucksport Racing crew, the weekend proved to be an absolute test of endurance, mechanical drama, and unwavering spirit.

🏁 Saturday: Flat Tyres and Trackside Battles at the Bugatti Circuit

Saturday threw nearly every challenge imaginable at team #81. In Race 1, luck was against Mark early on when a racing collision earned a 10-second penalty and left a severely slashed, flat front tyre. Refusing to concede, Mark nursed the wounded 5.3-tonne MAN TGX around the circuit for the entire race distance, showing monumental car control to salvage a P5 finish in the Chrome Class.

Race 2 quickly escalated into true “wacky races” drama across the field. Involved in intense wheel-to-wheel scraps, Mark pushed the truck to its limits, but new mechanical troubles surfaced as the transmission repeatedly popped out of top gear. While thousands of spectators enjoyed the spectacular 24 Heures Camions evening show and trackside night racing, the #81 garage turned into a scene of sheer graft. The mechanics worked tirelessly late into the night under the paddock lights, grinding, welding, and rebuilding the truck for Sunday’s action.

🔧 Sunday: Gearbox Drama and a Heroes’ Push for the Podium

Sunday morning kicked off with Mark qualifying P5 in the Chrome Class, though the transmission issues persisted. Race 3 turned into a masterclass in physical endurance: with the truck constantly jumping out of gear, Mark had to manually hold the gear lever in place for the entire race! Battling intense fatigue and mechanical strain, Mark delivered a heroic drive to secure an extraordinary 3rd place (P3) podium in category.

With top gear completely compromised, the team faced a massive race against the clock to pull off a full gearbox replacement prior to Race 4. The #81 crew threw everything at the truck, swapping the gearbox in record time and getting Mark back out on the grid. Mark repaid the team’s relentless effort in the best possible way, driving a brilliant, composed final race to claim his second P3 Chrome Class podium of the day!

Circuit Zolder is renowned throughout European motorsport as a true trial by fire. With its stop-and-go heavy braking zones, tight chicanes, and zero room for error, navigating a 5.3-tonne race truck around the Belgian venue requires absolute precision. Round 5 of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC) delivered high-octane drama, unpredictable weather, and technical gremlins—but Mark Taylor and the Taylors Trucksport Racing crew proved once again why Camp 81 is a force to be reckoned with!

Despite persistent mechanical issues on race truck ‘Nala’ that couldn’t be fully fixed trackside, Mark put on a masterclass in consistency, steering the #81 MAN TGX onto the Chrome Class podium in every race across the weekend!

🏁 Saturday: Pace, Podium Glory & An Off-Road Adventure

The action kicked off on Saturday morning with Mark setting an immediate statement of intent in the Warm-Up session, topping the Chrome Class timesheet with a 1m58.719s lap to go 6th fastest overall.

When the lights went out for Race 1, Mark brought the heat. Attacking Zolder’s technical chicanes with sharp precision, he sliced through the pack to cross the line in an impressive P6 Overall, securing 2nd Place in the Chrome Class and kicking the weekend off on the podium.

Race 2 brought even more spectacle. Starting on the partially reversed grid, Mark was locked in wheel-to-wheel battles early on. A dramatic moment mid-race saw the #81 truck forced into a brief off-road excursion across the Belgian grass! Showing trademark composure and rapid vehicle control, Mark re-joined the tarmac, carved his way back into contention, and grabbed a hard-earned 3rd-place chromepodium to wrap up a thrilling opening day.

🔧 Sunday: Surviving the Deluge & A Four-for-Four Podium Clean Sweep

Sunday morning welcomed the paddock with grey skies and a treacherous forecast. The heavens opened early, making conditions around the 4.0-kilometre circuit extraordinarily slick.

By the time Race 3 approached, standing water on the asphalt presented an immense challenge. Mark highlighted the danger from inside the cockpit prior to launch, noting that the torrential rain made track conditions nothing short of hazardous. Driving with cool composure amidst spray and severe aquaplaning risks, Mark brought Nala home safely to bag yet another 3rd Place in Chrome.

The final outing in Race 4 proved to be the ultimate test of endurance. With water streaming across the track and truck issues continuing to hamper peak performance, Mark dug deep. He pushed the MAN TGX through the spray to cross the line for 2nd Place in Chrome, completing an incredible sweep of four podium finishes from four races!

By the time the chequered flag fell, torrential rain flooded the paddock—prompting jokes from the crew asking if anyone had brought a dinghy!

Sunday Double Victory Extends Mark Taylor’s Chrome Championship Lead!

Autodrom Most in the Czech Republic is renowned as one of the most gruelling and technical circuits on the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship calendar. With its notorious opening chicane, heavy braking zones, and unpredictable late-summer weather, it demands absolute precision from both driver and machine. Mark Taylor and the #81 Taylors Trucksport Racing MAN TGX crew arrived in Central Europe ready for a monumental battle as Round 4 marked the official midway point of the 2026 season!

🏁 Saturday: Resilience Through the Rain and Penalties

Saturday began with high drama in Qualifying 1. Mark was flying early on, posting a rapid lap time in the 2.02s range that had the pit garage buzzing. However, track limits proved unforgiving when the #81 clipped a penalty marker, resulting in a lap-time disqualification. Before Mark could assemble another flyer, a sudden rain drizzle swept over the Most circuit, dampening the tarmac and preventing any improved lap times. Forced to line up on Row 7 for Race 1, the team knew they had a massive challenge ahead of them.

When the lights went out for Race 1, Mark launched off the grid, carving his way through heavy traffic into the tight Turn 1 chicane. The racing was ferocious throughout the pack. Despite pushing hard, the stewards handed down a controversial 10-second penalty for allegedly forcing another driver off the track—a decision the team disagreed with, but accepted in true sportsmanlike fashion. Showing tremendous grit, Mark salvaged vital points and secured a fantastic 3rd place finish in the Team Championship alongside teammate Eduardo Rodrigues!

Bouncing back in Race 2 from deep on the grid, Mark put on an overtaking display. Navigating a chaotic mid-pack battle, he manoeuvred the 5.3-tonne MAN TGX through the field to secure 3rd place in the Chrome category, stepping onto the podium! Crossing the line to claim a Chrome P3 finish provided a massive morale boost as the 2026 ETRC season officially hit its halfway milestone.

🔧 Sunday: Double Victory Dominance in Most

With the track dry and the sun shining on Sunday morning, the team hit the ground running for Qualifying 2. Mark delivered a stunning lap, putting the #81 MAN TGX P2 in the Chrome Class and P6 overall, securing a prime Row 3 starting spot.

From the drop of the green flag in Race 3, Mark drove with supreme confidence. Executing a textbook start into Turn 1, he broke away from the chasing pack, managing his Goodyear tyres and water-cooled brakes flawlessly through Most’s high-speed direction changes. Unstoppable from start to finish, Mark stormed across the line to take a brilliant 1st place in Chrome Class!

The momentum carried straight into Race 4. Starting from the third row, Mark launched another aggressive attack. Engaged in an intense, cat-and-mouse duel as the pack bunched up in the closing stages, Mark held his line through every heavy braking zone, keeping his cool under immense pressure. Crossing the chequered flag to complete a sensational Sunday Chrome Class double victory, the team celebrated in style with champagne spraying on the top step of the podium!
