Huthwaite’s, Nottinghamshire based Taylors Trucksport Racing Team hosted students and staff from the ATTFE College of Motor Vehicle Technology from Ollerton Nottinghamshire went to Donington Park Race Circuit in Leicestershire to get up close and personal to their 1,100-brake horsepower, 100mph race truck.
The students came to support the team in the International Truck Prix at Donington Park and annual Convoy in the Park that took place at the weekend (12-13 August)
It was amazing for the race team to be able to show them the race truck, meet the driver Mark Taylor and see how the team runs throughout a race weekend.
They were also able watch the team on track testing and were able to ask questions with the team and compare what they usually work on at the vehicle college.
Some of the students returned Saturday to join the team for a full race day and witness the team in action on track and in the Paddock working on the truck on a very busy race day.
Taylors Truck Racing Team had recently returned from their full-time duties competing in the FIA European Truck Racing Championship where they are currently third in the Promoters Cup category and only in their first European season. It was the first time the truck had raced on home soil since the start of the season in April and they return for another four more FIA European rounds starting in Most, Czech Republic in just over a week’s time.
The students on Saturday saw the team take a third-place trophy and the teams weekend got even better on Sunday winning the last race of the day in a fantastic race with a gap of only 0.177 seconds between first and second place.
Paul Horton, Taylors Trucksport Racing Team Media Officer said “It was a pleasure to have everybody, and we loved watching them experience the on-track testing for the first time!
He added “Recently we took a brand-new roadgoing Volvo truck to the college for them to view, so now they have seen what the racing truck is like in comparison to one you see on the road”.
Liz Barrett OBE, Principal of ATTFE College said “it was a real privilege to be invited to Donington courtesy of Taylor’s Transport Group. We took some of our 16–18-year-old Motor Vehicle learners who learnt so much during the visit as well as had an epic time cheering and supporting Mark Taylor from trackside.”
